2022

Brenna K. Murphy is a visual artist, project manager, preschool teacher, and lifelong nomad. In her work, she explores experiences of loss and grief and their relationship to the body, emotional labor, and the physical labor of making using primarily fiber-based techniques such as weaving, embroidery, and lace-making. She holds a M.F.A. from the University of Michigan Stamps School of Art & Design and a B.F.A. with Highest Honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a working artist for many years, Brenna has exhibited throughout the U.S. and internationally in community art centers, commercial galleries, and corporate venues. Her work has also been featured in exhibitions at museums and universities such as the Hunter Museum of American Art in Tennessee, the Patan Museum in Kathmandu, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. She is the recipient of many awards, including the College Art Association’s 2017 Professional Development Award in the Visual Arts, which is given to only one MFA student in the U.S. each year, and her work has been collected by the University of North Carolina and the prestigious West Collection, among others. She has attended several artist residencies, such as the Vermont Studio Center, the Kathmandu Contemporary Arts Centre in Nepal, and the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris.
