James Simmons, III is a theater artist and writer originally from Athens, Georgia and currently working in Brooklyn. He has performed as an actor, puppeteer, and dancer. His work has been seen in New York at LaMaMa, Dixon Place, Judson Church, St. Ann’s Warehouse, and Sarah Lawrence College where he received his MFA. His most recent play, Throne, a dramatization of the life and work of outsider artist, James Hampton; was produced at Dixon Place. He is currently working on the story of his great-grandfather who was the first black physician in Milledgeville, Georgia.
